"I began by making personalized items for our Maltese dogs, Lexie and Princeton," said Margot Thoms, "and soon I found that many of my friends and relatives were also looking for the same items. They requested me to make those items for them and, in a short time, I had the opportunity to create a business."
Ever the self-starters, the Thoms make sure that their products - which range from fleece blankets to beds to pet bandanas - are designed at home and made locally. "I have designed all the products," explained Margot. "I select and procure the fabric. We use two outside sewing houses who manufacture all of our products locally."
As their site grows daily, the Thoms have also utilized technology by starting a companion blog, http://www.MyPersonalizedPetBlog.com. The blog is an informative counterpart for the couples' http://www.MyPersonalizedPet.com.
"The blog will provide people with valuable information about their pets," said Margot.
With My Personalized Pet going on its fifth year, Margot Thoms reflects on positive reaction to the items that she and her husband offer to the world at large: "We have been overwhelmed by the response to our website and are delighted to see such great feedback related to the quality and originality of our products."
In a time when so many pet businesses are focused on striking out on trends, the Thoms have created something long-term by catering to a pet's basic needs: comfort and love. And they do it with quality and style.
